Around 400 AD, a man named Augustine came up with an idea of "Original sin". Basically it is said that everyone inherits the sin of Adam at birth and therefore is separated from GOD. This caused parents concerned over their fate of their children, should they die before getting right with GOD. Since there was no way to get right with GOD they decided to baptize their Children. Baptism is a service where a person is immersed into water or sprinkling of water for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is also known to be Christening; christening actually means naming ceremony of the new born baby. Most of the Christian churches use the term Baptism and Christening as having the same meaning. Water, oil and Light are the three symbols of Baptism. If a person or a baby is being baptized the parents and the godparents are given a lighted candle to represent Jesus as the light of the world. The priest says "Shine as the light in the world too fight against sin and the devil". There are different philosophies that tell us why it is necessary to be baptized. Some say it is an outward sign of an inward grace, so it can be cone later. Few say that we need to grow in Christ and others say to join the church we need to be baptizes into our church. Actually through baptism one is united with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection and transposes it onto our life. The function:
The baptism party is a part of the religious ceremony where relatives and friends join together to honor the baby on the special day. White is a primary color and is used for the dress, cakes and decorations. Guests bring gifts with them and hand it over to the baby or to the baby's parents. Different people celebrate this party in many different ways some organize the party in a public hall, some in their own house or some in their gardens. The whole place is decorated with different colors of flowers and balloons. During this event, party games, activities and music is being organized. People use Mardi grass Masks to brighten up the celebration. The main thing in this party is cutting of the cake; it is very perfectly decorated with a candle on it. Different types of chocolates are being served with some juice or soft drinks. Also some serve wine with a piece of cake, it is an American tradition. Delicious and variety of dishes are being served on the buffet table. It is a very big occasion for the whole community as one more person has being baptized. |
