A religious baptism or christening is the first occasion on the honor of your newborn baby. This is a custom that is followed for the purpose of christening or naming the baby. A process is followed for the celebration of baptism. They carry it out with presentation of the candidates, invitation to the prayer, litany of the saints, prayer over the water, profession of faith, renunciation of sin and profession of faith. These things are carried out and for this purpose a lot of people are invited. It is mainly a Christian ceremony that is followed for christening the name. The origin of word baptism Greek word and it is used in the New Testament which is to fully immerse. Thus the word means to baptize or to name. It also means to get purification through the water bath. Well these both are related. To baptize the new born baby is to purify the child and remove all the ancestral sins. It is also an essential role in baptism. The Catholics think that baptism is necessary for salvation. And this is called the baptism by salvation. But when a baby is baptized then he or she is named. Invitations are made in this ceremony for everyone's good wishes on the newborn baby.

As a religious and traditional ceremony this followed by the parents for the naming of the baby. They follow in a different pattern in both the Roman Catholic Church and other ancient Christian churches. They are all conducted in churches. It is on the people to follow in the churches according to them which are carried on hereditarily. Invitations is given to all the near by friends and relatives for the purpose of the baptism of the infant in the church. First the baby is held by the parents and taken near the Father of the church and the Father continues to follow all the rituals that are required for the infant to get purified and after all these are carried out when the father with the consent of the parents names the infant. The friends are invited and they are treated respectfully. At last they continue with their dinner or lunch. The people who are connected with the church they are invited to bless the child and give good wishes for their future. These all things are conducted by the parents of the baby for the betterment of his life in the future.

The traditions are followed with a great interest and people carry out such things by inferring that such actions and programme will bring good things in the future. The baby is covered with everyone's blessing which becomes a good sign for this. This ceremony is carried all over the world with different patterns.
