Christening CandlesBaptism is a service where a person is immersed into the water for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism, is also known to be a sacrament which is a visible sign of GOD"S love. Around 400 AD, a man named Augustine came up with an idea of "Original Sin". Basically it is said that everyone inherits the sin of Adam at birth and therefore separated from GOD. This caused parents concerned over their fate of their children, should they die before getting right with GOD. Since there was no way to get right with GOD they decided to baptize their Children. As it was risky to immerse infants into water they decided to sprinkle them with the water. Through baptism one in united with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. In other words in baptism GOD takes Christ's death, burial and resurrection and transposes it onto our life. Christening is a human idea and it did not come from the Bible. There are different philosophies that tell us why it is necessary to be baptized. Some say it is just an outward sign of an inward grace, so it can be done later. Few say that we need to grow in Christ, and others say to join the church we need to be baptized into our church. Christening is an old name for baptism and it means naming ceremony of a new born baby. Most Christian churches use the terms Baptism and Christening as having the same meaning. BAPTISM CANDLES
The candle represents light and is also a symbol of baptism. The personalized birth candle or a baptism candle is a beautiful memento for a new born baby. Baptism candle displays one or both first names of the baby, the birth date or a baby photograph. On the back of the candle there may be a suitable poem or a message from the family of the baby. It also has a ribbon or a decorative base to look attractive. The word 'Christened' or 'Baptized' often proceeds above the christening date on the candle. Often the candle is displayed through the christening before being placed alongside the cake through the party or the ceremony. IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM CANDLES Jesus is called the light of life or the light of the world. A large candle will be lit in the church, and this lighted candle is given to everyone at the end of the service as a reminder of light which comes into the child's life. It is upto the godparents and the church community to help the child reject the darkness from his life and follow the reflects of goodness and light. The presentation of light represents how the newly baptized child will become a son or daughter of the light. |
